FIST and Graduate School Explore Postgraduate Education

The meeting about graduate administration and cultivation in Frontier Institute of Science and Technology (FIST) was held on Nov. 1st, 2011. It was chaired by Prof. He Maogang, Vice Dean of Graduate School, and was attended by Prof. He Xiaobin, Dean of FIST, and other leading members of the two schools.

At the meeting, Prof. He and the directors of the relevant offices of Graduate School described XJTU graduate administration and education system and explained the operation of the system in concrete terms from candidate admission to degree granting. Prof. Ren outlined FIST’s direction and plan of scientific research, as well as the objectives of its postgraduate education.

As an academic special zone, FIST adopts an advanced administrative model and an effective administrative system for scientific research which is geared to the international standards. Meanwhile, it has a distinctive multidisciplinary feature. Participants at the meeting also discussed at length about how to provide individualized education to graduate students in FIST within the current graduate education framework.

In his summary remark, Prof. He expressed Graduate School and FIST share the common goal to cultivate excellent graduate students with international competitiveness. Therefore, Graduate School is pledged to provide excellent services to FIST, to support its reforms in administration and research, and to meet the need of its individualized education. Prof. Ren also said the meeting was productive and FIST will formulate detailed postgraduate curriculum and administration system, make full use of its advantage as the academic special zone and produce high-quality talents.
